Orthodontics

A smile to be proud of!

Orthodontics focuses on optimizing the position of the teeth in the jaw using braces. While it’s traditionally children who wear braces, we’re seeing more and more adults for orthodontic treatment. Some 25% of all patients who wear braces are adults.

More than looking good?!
Straight teeth give you a nice smile, but they’re also easier to keep clean. It also stands to reason that properly positioned teeth offer the best chewing capability and wear down less.

How do orthodontics work?

If you are considering orthodontics, please get in touch to arrange a consultation or check-up. We’ll discuss the options together and give you our sound advice.

Orthodontic examination and consultation
The process of having braces fitted always starts with an orthodontic examination, where we’ll take X-rays, create models of your teeth, and take photographs. We’ll then use these to draw up a treatment plan. In your plan, we’ll advise you of the type of brace(s) that we recommend, the result we hope to achieve, and the rough duration of treatment. We’ll also meet with you to go through everything in the plan. You’ll also receive a cost estimate.

If you agree to the treatment plan, we’ll make an appointment so that we can start treatment. While your treatment is ongoing, we’ll check your braces regularly and adjust them if necessary.

During treatment, it’s especially important that you take extra good care of your oral hygiene. We’ll check this for you and give you detailed instructions and/or assistance with cleaning your teeth if you need it.

Retention phase
Once your teeth have reached the optimum position, the last phase, known as the retention phase, will follow. This involves inserting small metal wires or splints behind the teeth of your lower jaw and specially made covers in the upper jaw overnight to help retain the result of your brace treatment.

Different brace types are available according to your personal circumstances. We’ll discuss the type that’s best for you during the consultation.

Insignia
At Botman dental practice, we work with a brace system developed in America – Insignia – the most pioneering and innovative brace system on the market. Insignia is based on the idea that no set of teeth is the same and that braces must always be customized.

The system differs from traditional brace treatment in a number of ways.

  1. We start by making a 3D scan of your teeth. The dentist will then use this scan and advanced software to create a design.
  2. The software calculates the optimum bracket and bracket position for each tooth. The wires are also made individually.
  3. The brackets are placed on the teeth with 3D printed holders so that they can be stuck in the best position.

We do everything we possibly can to ensure that the duration of treatment is as short as possible, thereby achieving the best result possible.

The brackets are metallic coloured, but should you prefer tooth-coloured brackets, please let us know so that we can order them for you.

Invisalign
The newest innovation in the world of braces is Invisalign. These transparent, customized aligners are virtually invisible. Invisalign treatment consists of a series of almost invisible and removable aligners that need to be replaced with a new set every two weeks. Each aligner is customized to your teeth. Each time you click a new aligner over your teeth, your teeth will move slightly, until ultimately the result that you want is achieved.

Ask our practitioners in Venlo or Blerick during your consultation or check-up and we’ll talk you through the options.
