Over time, fillings may be used to fill holes in the teeth, which ultimately cause the teeth to weaken. Fillings fracture and pieces of tooth break off. In such cases, larger fillings are no longer a solution and it’s time to start looking at crowns and bridges. Crowns and bridges are intended as lasting replacements for the crown section of a tooth, and a good crown or bridge will never be noticeable. We ensure that the shape and colour are as close as possible to the original tooth.

Crowns

A crown is a metal and/or porcelain cap that fits perfectly over an abraded tooth. The cap is glued onto the tooth. There can be a number of reasons why you might need a crown, such as tooth decay, weak teeth, as the result of root canal treatment, or for aesthetic reasons, such as discolouration or a misshapen tooth that is visible at the front of the mouth.

Bridges

If multiple teeth are missing, a bridge offers a favourable solution. A bridge is attached to two or more pillar elements. These are teeth onto which we place crowns on either side of an open space. This open space is replaced by a pontic, which can comprise one or more crowns/dummies. There are different indications for a bridge, such as improved appearance. A bridge can also help to improve chewing and prevent the teeth from growing crooked or outwards. Crowns and bridges are glued, making them fixed structures.
