Getting implants placed

Implants have various applications. The most well-known applications are an implant as a replacement for a tooth and having two or more implants placed as a basis for a complete denture; the click denture. Botman Tandartsen Venlo specializes in implantology. On this page you can read more about the possibilities in the field of implantology and our working method.

What is an implant?

An implant is in fact an artificial root, a titanium screw that we place in the jaw. The reason that titanium is chosen as a material is because it is a body-friendly material to which bone easily attaches. As a result, the healing process generally proceeds very well.

What can you have implants placed for?

Implants can be used in various situations:

  • Tooth replacement:

The great advantage of an implant is that the treatment is limited to the place where the missing tooth or molar was. Unlike a bridge, the teeth or molars next to it are not involved in the treatment.

  • Implants with a bar and click denture:

This is an anchoring on 2 or more implants for a click-in denture: this gives a prosthesis much more hold. You can function much better with a denture that is well fixed.

Who are implants suitable for?

Implants can in principle be placed in anyone over the age of 18. After this age, the jawbone has grown. However, there are a number of other conditions that must be met in order to be eligible for implants:

  • Sufficient (healthy) jawbone.
  • Healthy gums around other teeth and molars.
  • Sufficient physical health.

How does dental implant placement work?

The treatment consists of a number of phases. First, we investigate the possibilities using X-rays and measurements and draw up a treatment plan for you. Then we plan a treatment in which we surgically place the implants. The healing process after the procedure is fairly quick and in approx. 95% of cases without problems. For people who smoke or have diabetes, these percentages are somewhat lower. In the final phase, we make (together with the dental laboratory) the construction for which the implant is intended. Think of bar anchoring for a prosthesis or a crown or bridge.

Because we use a digital 3D oral scanner (Trios 3shape) in combination with our 3D X-ray image (Conebeam Carestream), we can use a drill template (guided surgery) for placing implants. This ensures maximum precision when placing the implant. At Botman Tandartsen, we only use A-quality implants from market leader Straumann. Replacement prostheses with push buttons or bars can be adapted to all existing systems.
